About
The RISE Program

The RISE Student Exchange is Canada’s largest summer research exchange program in the chemical sciences.  Every summer, research scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students who will have completed the equivalent of two or three full years of study toward a BSc. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or Biochemistry as of May 2026.

RISE Scholarships include a research stipend for work in the laboratories of a RISE Advisor at another institution, travel funding to help you get to your job, and funding to go to the annual RISE Conference at the end of the summer.  The RISE Conference is a highlight of the summer, where RISE Scholars present their research results to other RISE Scholars and their advisors. This year, the conference will be hosted by the University of Ottawa.

The specific research interests of the RISE Advisors vary considerably and interested candidates are encouraged to check the web sites of the research mentors for information.

Those universities with Co-op programmes normally recognise the RISE Canada summer placement as the equivalent of a Co-op work term.  All RISE Scholars are expected to apply for an NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) where applicable at their host institution.

The application process requires applicants to submit the following for consideration:

  • Completed application form,
  • Most recent academic transcript
  • One letter of recommendation to be submitted by the letter writer.

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE on November 28th, 2025.
